Kaupapa Māori as relevant as profit for the Māori economy

Tama PotakaIn April this year Tama Potaka wrote an opinion piece in the NZ Herald, “Kaupapa Māori As Relevant As Profit For Tribal Bodies”. Te Pūtea Whakatupu Trust is excited to have Tama speak to set the scene for a highly engaged panel discussion on looking at how relevant kaupapa Māori is to our Maori economy, to our New Zealand economy.

Mr Potaka is the General Manager Corporate Services for Tainui Group Holdings, he is from Ngāti Hauiti, Whanganui, and Taranaki, and has strong connections to Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Ngāti Raukawa. Prior to joining Tainui Group Holdings, Tama was a senior solicitor at Bell Gully. Tama has worked as an attorney in the USA, and in a variety of governance, consultancy, research and legal roles in New Zealand, he has a Masters of Law from Columbia University, New York City, and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) and Bachelor of Arts (Political Science, Māori Studies) from Victoria University of Wellington.

Tama is married to Ariana and together they have a daughter - Tiaria Te Ikaroa, and two sons - Te Awarua Tamatereka and Aorangi Te Aionuku.
