Changing the Landscape of our Primary Industries

Dr Tanira Kingi is currently the Research Leader in Primary Systems in the Value Chain Optimisation Group at Scion. He specialises in land use diversification, agricultural development and primary sector analysis. Prior to Scion he worked at AgResearch and Massey University’s Agricultural Systems group. He is currently a member of the Te Ture Whenu Maori Ministerial Advisory Group and has several board appointments with a number of Māori agricultural businesses and treaty settlement entities including Whakaue Farming Ltd and Te Arawa Management Ltd. Tanira is currently chair of the Lake Rotorua Stakeholder Advisory Group that is working with the Bay of Plenty Regional Council on developing regulation to reduce nitrate leaching into the lake. He has been an advisor to a number of government agencies on Maori land issues for the past 20 years. Tanira has a PhD in agricultural economics and development from the Australian National University and he is affiliated to Te Arawa (Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Rangitihi, Ngāti Makino)

We are honoured to have Dr Tanira present at the Ngā Whetū Hei Whai for 2015 and his presentation will lead the panel discussions on the landscape of our primary industry in Aotearoa.
